Calvary Christian School has announced the Seniors of the Month. Congratulations to Ezekiel Wylie and Nora Thornton!
The pair have made significant contributions to their school community, showcasing leadership, athleticism, and a commitment to their faith.
Ezekiel Wylie: A Model of Leadership and Academic Excellence
Ezekiel, son of Wade and Jennifer Wylie, has taken on numerous leadership roles, serving as ASB Treasurer for two consecutive years and stepping up as ASB President for the 2024-2025 school year. His dedication extends beyond student government; he co-presides over the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and is a leader in the Spartan Group.
An accomplished athlete, Ezekiel was part of the team that clinched the 2024 OVCC North League Championship and was recognized as an All-League Honorable Mention and All-Star. His academic achievements are equally impressive, earning him the Scholar-Athlete Award for maintaining a 4.0+ GPA while participating in sports for eight semesters.
Among his many accolades, Ezekiel has been a two-time American Legion Essay winner, a National Honor Society member, and a recipient of the American Legion Post 173 Scholarship for Buckeye Boys State. He has also been nominated for Academic All-American honors.
Reflecting on his high school experience, Ezekiel shared a favorite memory of trying to get his teammate, Charles Krumm, to take a crucial three-point shot during a basketball game. Although the shot didn’t go in, the moment exemplified his love for teamwork and sportsmanship.
Ezekiel’s passion extends beyond athletics; he is enthusiastic about math, weightlifting, and music. Inspired by his family and his pastor, he plans to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering while continuing his basketball career in college.
Nora Thornton: A Heart for Service and Community
Nora, daughter of Jamison and Angela Thornton has also left her mark at Calvary as the ASB Vice President. A member of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, she is active in the Chapel Band and Drama Club, exemplifying a well-rounded student life.
Nora cherishes the intense camaraderie of student section support during games and emphasizes her love for teaching kids about Jesus and spending time outdoors. Her parents serve as her primary inspiration, guiding her to follow God passionately.
One of her most impactful experiences was participating in ESM week, where she supported students facing significant challenges, reinforcing her commitment to service. Nora plans to enter the mission field or pursue a degree in middle school English education after graduation.
Both Ezekiel and Nora credit their time at Calvary for shaping their worldviews. Ezekiel noted that his education grounded him in a Christian perspective, while Nora expressed that it helped her form a deeper understanding of her faith.
Advice for Future Students
Ezekiel and Nora both offer sage advice for incoming high school students. Ezekiel encourages hard work, kindness, and joy, reminding others to reflect Christ’s love in their actions. Nora emphasizes the importance of grace, urging students to be gentle with themselves amidst the pressures of school.
As they prepare for the next chapter of their lives, both students are poised to make a lasting impact, embodying the values instilled in them during their time at Calvary. Their stories serve as an inspiration to current and future students alike.
