Outside of West Liberty, a state wildlife preserve was doing what was hoped to be a controlled burn Wednesday afternoon.
According to the West Liberty Fire Department, the fire jumped a fence and caught more property than intended on fire.
Smoke from the fire, on Game Farm Road, could be seen for miles, and residents from the village of West Liberty said smoke could be smelled.
No injuries have been reported and Urbana assisted on the scene.
