Early Friday morning, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call that led to the arrest of 33-year-old Ray Ward Jr. of Toledo.

The call came in shortly after 1:00 AM from a home on Blackhawk Path in Lakeview.

Dispatch reported that a woman was distressed, crying, and could only answer yes-or-no questions.

She told deputies she had locked herself in a bathroom after Ward allegedly hit her.

When deputies arrived, they found Ward trying to avoid law enforcement.

He initially refused to comply, going into the garage and ignoring commands.

Deputies then found Ward inside the home and placed him in handcuffs.

The victim told deputies that Ward had become aggressive after a discussion about her ex-husband and struck her in the face.

She managed to escape to the bathroom and call 911.

Deputies noted visible redness on her cheek.

Ward denied hitting the victim, claiming her cheeks were red from tanning and describing their interactions as wrestling.

Deputies also discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Ward was transported to the Logan County Jail and formally charged with:

  • Domestic Violence (ORC 2919.25)
  • Assault (ORC 2903.13)

He has a prior criminal history involving domestic violence charges.
