Honda recalls 440,000 Honda Odysseys

American Honda is voluntarily recalling approximately 440,000 model year 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles in the U.S. to reprogram or if necessary, replace the airbag (SRS ECU) module.

The SRS ECU deployment threshold margin calibration was too sensitive to underbody impacts, which could cause the side curtain or side airbags to deploy unexpectedly when subjected to strong impacts caused by potholes, speed bumps, or debris on the road, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. As of April 2, 2026, there have been 25 reports of injury and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017- April 2, 2026.

Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved airbag deployment parameters, as necessary.

American Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification. Owners of these vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.honda.com, or by calling (888) 234-2138.
