Indian Lake school officials highlighted the district’s state report card results and efforts to save taxpayers money during the September Board of Education meeting.
The State of Ohio school district report cards were released last week, with Indian Lake once again receiving the highest rating in Logan County with four stars.
Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood said Indian Lake is above the state average in all tested areas and continues to outperform districts that are similar in size and demographics.
“Our middle school has just continued to show tremendous growth, so that was a highlight area. They actually had a 4.5 rating overall.” Underwood continued, “Some other areas that were quite impressive, at the elementary our third grade ELA scores were around 95-96% and our Algebra scores at the high school were the highest they’ve ever been.”
District Treasurer Brady Hipsher also completed the process of refinancing the district’s existing bonds that paid for construction of the elementary school.
Dr. Underwood said the district refinanced the bonds once in 2017 and had another opportunity to realize savings again this fall.
“What it does is it saves about $245,000 over the remaining years left on the bonds that will be paid off in 2034, so that constitutes about $30,000 in savings per year less in tax dollars that will be collected from our constituents.”
The board also approved an overnight trip for the Indian Lake High School and Ohio Hi-Point FFA to attend the FFA National Convention at the end of October.
Several donations were also accepted, including a $40,000 donation from the Indian Lake Eagles’ charitable gaming funds.
The next Indian Lake Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 19, at 5:30 p.m.
