The Lakeview Village Council met in regular session Monday night and approved the purchase of memorial plaques for the two victims of the March 14, 2024, tornado that struck the village. Mayor Elaine Fagan-Moore asked the council to approve the plaques and detailed activities in the area on the anniversary of the storm.

Prior to Mayor Fagan-Moore’s update, Washington Township Police Chief Michael Thompson told the council that his department handled 130 calls for service in February, including one overdose. He expects the volume of calls to increase as the weather gets nicer.

In his report, Zoning Officer Gary Bias handled 90 zoning calls for the month. He reported that he sent 16 letters to village property owners requesting they demolish dilapidated buildings on their property. He has received one letter back and hopes for more to come in.

Fire Chief Josh Oakley said that he is still looking for an aerial truck to replace the vehicle. He expressed to the council that he would appreciate them discussing a dollar amount that the village would be able to add to the money that has been received from the insurance company so he knows what dollar amount is available. He also said that several members of the department will be attending free fire classes this coming weekend held in northwestern Ohio.

Village Administrator Dave Scott expressed his concerns to the council about the scheduled Spring Clean-Up Day. He is concerned that the expenditure would cause financial hardship for the village. Fiscal Officer Heather Kegg reminded the council that there are several expenditures due to be made in the coming months that were not budgeted for. After discussion, the council voted to push the clean-up until next spring.

In her report, Mayor Fagan-Moore’s request for the purchase of the plaques was approved, and she said that the memorial trees have not been ordered yet. In addition to the memorial plaques, she would like to have two additional plaques made, one for the village utilities crew and the other for the village fire department in honor of the work they did. Those plaques will be ordered at a later date.

She mentioned that on March 16th, there will be a ceremony for the families at the fire station. This ceremony, according to Fagan-Moore, will be an intimate time of remembrance for the families.

Two ordinances were adopted by the council after motions were made to waive the three-reading rule for both.

  • Ordinance 2025-07, which would approve, adopt, and enact American Legal Publishing’s 2025 Edition of the Ohio Basic Code as the codified ordinances for the municipality of Lakeview.
  • Ordinance 2025-08. which would enter into an agreement with the Logan Soil and Water Conservation District to assist the village in the current Flood Plain management plan.

The next Lakeview Council meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 6:00 PM.
