A Lakeview man has been charged with aggravated menacing after allegedly threatening a group of juveniles who found and returned his wallet at Urbana City Park.

The following information is from a statement filed in Champaign Municipal Court:

Kaden Rose, 20, of Lakeview, was charged with one count of aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor, following an incident June 1 at Urbana City Park on Children’s Home Road.

According to Urbana Police Officer Bennie Stacy, officers were dispatched to the park shortly before 7 p.m. after receiving a report involving recovered lost property. Dispatch advised that a group of juveniles had found a wallet and were unable to locate its owner.

When officers arrived, they were contacted by two juveniles who said the wallet had already been returned to its owner, identified as Rose. The juveniles told police that Rose threatened them, stating that if anything was missing from the wallet, he would hunt them down and hurt them.

Officers later located Rose near the park’s baseball fields and made contact with him. According to the report, Rose said he believed officers were there because several credit cards were missing from his wallet. He told officers that juveniles who found the wallet had emptied their pockets to show they did not have the cards.

Police said a parent of one of the juveniles also approached officers and reported that Rose and a female companion had caused a disturbance after the wallet was returned. The parent alleged that Rose followed the juveniles and made threats toward them.

Investigators interviewed the juveniles, who said they found the wallet and attempted to identify its owner by looking for identification inside. They reported the lost property to dispatch and later returned the wallet to Rose when he approached them.

According to the court statement, the juveniles told officers that Rose threatened to “snap their necks” and “hunt down their families” if anything was missing from the wallet. They also said Rose followed them from the pond area to the baseball fields and continued confronting them.

Police arrested Rose at the scene and transported him to the Urbana Police Department before he was taken to the Tri-County Jail.

A court appearance was scheduled for June 2 in Champaign Municipal Court.
