As the holiday season approaches, Wake Up The World Ministries is gearing up for its annual initiative to bring joy to less fortunate children in the community. This year, the church has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, expanding its efforts to collect and distribute new, unwrapped toys.
The mission of Toys for Tots is to ensure that every child experiences the joy of receiving a Christmas gift. Through December 15th, the program will collect toys to distribute as holiday gifts to families in need. The church has a long history of adopting families from Children Services, aiming to make a difference during the holiday season.
Heather Wright, a representative from the church, shared her motivation: “Last year, I tried to do a small toy drive for the children we were already helping. My son, a United States Marine, suggested I contact Toys for Tots for additional support. After realizing Logan County did not have a local program, I knew we had to make it happen.”
After meeting with another coordinator, Heather was inspired by the dedication of the volunteers involved in Toys for Tots. Encouraged to take on a leadership role, she navigated the screening process and attended mandatory training in St. Louis, Missouri.
“The experience was unforgettable,” Heather reflected. “I met incredible people, and the Marines were not only respectful but also immensely supportive.”
Now, with the campaign officially kicked off, the church is focused on raising community awareness about collection boxes and encouraging families to register for toy assistance. The distribution of toys will take place on December 20, 21, and potentially the 22nd.
“This is not just a Toys for Tots event; it’s a community effort,” Heather emphasized. “We want to spread hope, love, and joy to every child who reaches out to us.”
As the campaign unfolds, Heather is hopeful for strong community involvement, aiming to make this holiday season a memorable one for children in Logan County and the surrounding areas. With the support of local residents, the sky’s the limit for the future of Toys for Tots in the community.
