Students from Logan and Champaign counties are being recognized among the best and brightest in the state as part of a prestigious statewide awards program.

Monday evening, the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) will honor top students from each of Ohio’s 88 counties during the 37th annual Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards Program.

The event will be held at the Ohioan Hotel & Event Center.

The program recognizes high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and a strong commitment to community service.

Students are nominated by one of Ohio’s 51 Educational Service Centers based on grades, test scores, extracurricular involvement, and awards.

“In order to achieve this level of success, these students have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, resilience, and grit,” said Craig Burford, Executive Director of OESCA.

This year’s honorees include:

  • Jack Bonham of Graham High School, representing Champaign County through the Madison-Champaign Educational Service Center
  • Winifred Bodin of Benjamin Logan High School, representing Logan County through the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center

Named in honor of Franklin B. Walter, Ohio’s 31st State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the award was established in 1989 to celebrate student excellence in academics and service.

For nearly four decades, OESCA has recognized more than 2,800 scholars and student leaders through the program, highlighting the impact of educational service centers across the state.

One senior from each county is selected annually, making the recognition one of the highest academic honors a high school student can achieve in Ohio.
