Ohio Hi-Point Career Center student Emilie Alcorn, who partners with Graham High School, is being recognized for her academic excellence after earning first place in the Clark State College Research Essay Contest.

Alcorn attends Ohio Hi-Point full-time in the Animal Science program, representing Graham as her partner school. Ohio Hi-Point serves 14 high schools across five counties, allowing students to remain part of their home district while completing both their career-technical and academic coursework on campus.

She won the contest with her essay titled “Schizophrenia and Its Complexities.” The competition is open to all students at Clark State College, including those enrolled in College Credit Plus (CCP) courses. Alcorn is currently taking CCP English on campus at Ohio Hi-Point, where she is taught by English teacher Mrs. Monica Young.

As part of her achievement, Alcorn received a $100 award, will have her work published in Voices of the Valley, and will be honored at an awards banquet this April.

“I’ve always been interested in mental health and wanted to shed light on the stigmas of schizophrenia,” Alcorn said.

Looking ahead, she plans to attend Ohio Wesleyan University this fall, where she will major in Zoology.

Her accomplishment highlights both her academic dedication and her commitment to raising awareness about important mental health topics.
