The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding commercial drivers, construction haulers, and companies transporting materials to make sure their loads are properly secured before hitting the road.
The Patrol says troopers have seen an increase in incidents involving debris falling from trucks and trailers during the summer construction and back-to-school seasons.
Unsecured loads can create dangerous roadway conditions, including flying debris and unexpected obstacles. Even small items, such as rocks or loose materials, can damage vehicles, block a driver’s view, or cause crashes.
Lieutenant Jacob Landis with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Licensing and Commercial Standards section says securing a load is both a legal requirement and a responsibility to other drivers.
The Patrol recommends that companies and drivers inspect trucks, trailers and equipment before every trip.
That includes making sure load covers are in place, tie-downs are secure, and materials are properly contained.
Troopers will continue monitoring commercial traffic across Ohio and enforcing violations involving unsecured loads, roadway debris, and equipment safety.
The Highway Patrol says properly securing a load can help prevent crashes and keep everyone on the road safer.
