Bellefontaine High School recently named its Seniors of the Month, Harper Penhorwood and Hayden Maus.
Harper Penhorwood is the daughter of Matt Penhorwood and Lindy Martin of Bellefontaine.
Future plans: I will be attending Bowling Green State University, majoring in business, and will be a part of the Falcon cheerleading team.
School activities and awards: Academic Booster Awards, Honda Academic Award, Clark State Community College Dean’s List, Varsity Girls Wrestling, Varsity Track & Field, Varsity Cheerleading, Chieftain Leaders, Musical, DARE, National Honor Society, Yearbook, and Orchestra.
If I were principal for a day: I would have a fun day with no classes.
Favorite school memory: Hanging out with my sister and friends in Ms. Horvath’s room.
People who have been an inspiration to me: My older sister and my parents, who push me to be the best version of myself every day.
Lately I’ve been reading: Books for my English class.
My advice to parents: Allow your child to learn how to walk away from something and make decisions for themselves.
My biggest regret: Not joining musical sooner.
Where I see myself in 5 years: I will have graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in business, and I hope to be back here working in the community.
Hayden Maus is the son of Jason and Lindsey Maus of Belle Center.
Future plans: I will be attending Ohio Northern University, studying mechanical engineering. I will also run cross country and track for the Polar Bears.
School activities and awards: Cross Country, Track, and Robotics. I’ve been All-Ohio in cross country and indoor track. I hold the cross country school record, and I’m a three-time CBC champion. I competed at indoor track nationals this past winter. I’ve competed in robotics at the state, national, and world levels.
If I were principal for a day: I would lift the phone ban for lunches because my friends and I used to all play together.
Favorite school memory: The meal with the cross country team after bringing home a district trophy.
People who have been an inspiration to me: Tony Stewart during my freshman and sophomore years. He was like an older brother to me – always encouraging me to succeed and consistently looking out for my well-being. My parents are another major source of inspiration as they motivate me to one day be as caring and supportive as they are when I start my own family. Finally, I find inspiration in the person I hope to become five years from now. I strive every day to grow, improve, and become the best version of myself. The future version of me is someone I truly admire, and it’s who I’m determined to become.
Lately I’ve been reading: Sports articles.
My advice to parents: I’m very blessed to have great parents. Values like discipline, respect, and integrity not only need to be taught to kids but shown. If you work hard, respect others, and be true to others and to yourself, you will thrive.
My biggest regret: Not being as outgoing as I could have been.
Where I see myself in 5 years: I will have graduated from Ohio Northern University with a mechanical engineering degree and earned national championships in cross country and track. I will be looking for a job as a robotic engineer to further gain experience to work at my dream job at Boston Dynamics.
