A 40-year-old Urbana man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted two people during an incident at a local bar early Saturday morning.
According to the Urbana Police Division, officers responded around 1:47 a.m. on July 26 to Brackens Pub on Miami Street for a reported fight involving Ryan McFann. Police had also responded to an earlier incident involving McFann at the bar about 15 minutes before.
Officers initially spoke with McFann in the parking lot, where he told police he had been punched in the face by another person while at the bar. He declined to pursue charges.
Police then spoke with witnesses on the patio, who told officers that McFann approached a table, acted aggressively toward a woman, grabbed a man by the neck and threw him to the ground, then punched the woman in the face. Officers documented visible injuries to both alleged victims.
When officers returned to speak with McFann about the witness statements, he told them they would “talk in court,” according to the police report. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Tri-County Jail.
McFann is charged with two counts of assault, both first-degree misdemeanors, and one count of disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor.
McFann entered a not guilty plea during his initial court appearance. As a condition of his bond, he is prohibited from entering or being present in any bar or other location that sells alcohol for on-site consumption.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Champaign County Municipal Court.
