A police pursuit in Bellefontaine ended in a crash Wednesday night, but the driver got away on foot.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were called around 8:20 p.m. about a maroon vehicle traveling without working taillights.
Officers spotted a maroon Ford Fusion traveling northbound on South Troy Road and attempted to catch up.
When officers turned on their emergency lights, the driver sped up and refused to stop.
The driver ran several stop signs while traveling through the city, reaching speeds of about 84 miles per hour.
The pursuit ended when the Ford crashed into a parked vehicle on North Springhill Street.
Witnesses told officers a man got out of the driver’s side and ran from the scene, eventually heading toward Harmon Park.
Police and Logan County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area for about an hour but were unable to find the driver.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Officers later learned it had recently been sold to a man, although the previous owner was still listed on the registration.
The investigation remains ongoing.
