Riverside High School’s business students recently captured the Ohio State LifeSmarts Championship by answering questions about real-world marketplace issues.
The team, consisting of Carter Kreglow, Jorden Dunham, Levi Buchenroth, Hayden McCully, and Grady Jenkins, triumphed in this statewide consumer education competition, securing a spot in the 2025 National LifeSmarts Championship, which will be held in Chicago, Illinois, from April 24 to 27.
LifeSmarts, organized by the National Consumers League, challenges high school students (grades 9-12) to test their knowledge in a variety of categories, including personal finance, health & safety, technology & workforce development, the environment, and consumer rights & responsibilities.
The competition emphasizes practical, real-world skills that students can apply throughout their lives.
Lindsay Wyan, the business teacher and advisor for Riverside’s team, praised the students for their success. “LifeSmarts participants in Ohio have gained many of the consumer ‘smarts’ they’ll need to make it in the real world,” said Wyan. “We’re proud to have these young men represent Riverside High School in the National LifeSmarts Championship and continue gaining practical skills that will advance them in their futures.”
The Riverside team’s victory highlights the importance of consumer education, which prepares students for the challenges they will face as consumers and workers.
The National LifeSmarts Championship offers students a platform to further develop these skills while competing at a national level.
Riverside High School is now seeking support for the team’s travel to the national competition.
