State fair success: Logan County 4-H excels in sewing and quilting

Members of the Willing Workers 4-H Club had an outstanding showing at the Ohio State Fair, earning some of the highest honors in Ohio’s sewing and quilting competitions.

The club had 16 projects selected to represent Logan County at the Ohio State Fair, where members competed during three days of clothing judging and one day of quilt judging against the best sewing and quilting projects from across the state.

Willing Workers members earned an impressive nine Outstanding of the Day Awards, recognizing projects that ranked among the top 20 percent in their respective classes, along with four prestigious Clock Trophy Awards, presented to the top project in each class statewide.

Clock Trophy winners included:

  • Gillian Knight – Outerwear
  • Carly Strayer – Dress Up Daywear
  • Elayna Hoover – Clothes for Middle School
  • Emily Adams – You Can Quilt (First-Year Quilt)

Outstanding of the Day Awards were presented to:

  • Gillian Knight
  • Carly Strayer
  • Emily Adams
  • Elayna Hoover
  • Delia Rose, for both Terrific Tops and Designed By Me
  • Lila Adams – Ready, Set, Sew Active
  • Audra Harford – Loungewear
  • Valerie Knight – Formalwear

In addition, Carly Strayer and Valerie Knight were named daily finalists in the Sewing Achievement Records competition, placing them among only three finalists selected statewide on their respective judging days.

Valerie Knight also earned the overall Master Clothing Educator Senior Achievement Award, recognizing her outstanding accomplishments in clothing education.

Knight’s success extends beyond this year’s fair. Her wool suit from last year, which was named the National Make It With Wool runner-up and earned Top Construction and Top Embroidery honors, is currently in Connecticut being photographed for publication in an upcoming issue of Threads Magazine.

Overall, the Willing Workers 4-H Club’s state fair participants earned four Clock Trophy Awards, nine Outstanding of the Day Awards, two daily Sewing Achievement Record finalist honors, and one Master Clothing Educator Senior Achievement Award, capping off an exceptional year for the club’s sewing and quilting program.
