Motorists traveling through Champaign County should expect several ongoing construction projects and lane restrictions this week as the Ohio Department of Transportation and the City of Urbana continue roadway improvements. All work is weather permitting.
Several state highways will be reduced to a single lane during daytime hours while ODOT crews repave the roadways. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
The ongoing ODOT projects include:
- State Route 55: Between Old Troy Pike and U.S. 68 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- State Route 29: Between State Route 235 and State Route 560 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- State Route 245: Between Brush Lake Road and Gilbert Road from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In addition, the City of Urbana has announced several street projects beginning Monday, July 20.
Asphalt repairs will take place on Miami Street between Freeman Avenue and Sara Street and on West Church Street between North Oakland Street and Freeman Avenue. Drivers should expect flaggers, lane restrictions, and steel plates in the roadway until the final surface layer is installed, which is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.
The city will also begin exploratory digging to identify waterline materials from July 20 through July 31, starting on Lafayette Avenue. Additional locations will be announced as work progresses.
Also beginning Monday, crews will perform full-depth reclamation on Miami Street between South High Street and North Oakland Street through Friday, July 24. Flaggers and lane shifts will be in place during the project.
ODOT is also reminding drivers of two upcoming road closures for culvert replacements:
- State Route 235 will be closed between U.S. 36 and Wolcott Road/Hellton Road from Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 21. The posted detour will follow South State Route 235 to East U.S. 36 to South State Route 56 to West State Route 55.
- State Route 245 will be closed between Hite Road and Township Road 195 from Monday, August 24, through Friday, August 28. Drivers will be detoured via State Route 245 West, U.S. 68 South, State Route 296 West, and State Route 29 West.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down in work zones, watch for flaggers and changing traffic patterns, and allow extra travel time while construction is underway.
