The village of Russells Point has a new mayor, John Huffman, who was sworn in by Council member and notary Greg Iiams following the resignation of former Mayor Robin Reames during a Village Council meeting on Monday night.
Reames stepped down for retirement purposes after serving the community since 2012, making her one of the longest-serving mayors in the village’s history.
During her tenure, Mayor Reames navigated numerous challenges, including health issues, a natural disaster, and spearheading essential infrastructure improvements.
Her leadership has left a lasting impact on the community, and she expressed gratitude for her time in office.
In a statement, Mayor Reames reflected on her experiences, sharing how much she enjoyed her role and emphasizing her confidence in the new mayor:
As interim mayor, Huffman, who previously served as the President of the Council, is prepared to continue the progress made under Reames’ leadership.
A “Celebration of Thanks” will be held for Reames at the Indian Lake Brewery on Thursday, October 10th from 7-10 PM. The public is invited to attend.
Residents of Russells Point remain optimistic about the future as Huffman steps into this important role.
A new mayor will be elected in 2025, allowing the community to choose its next leader.
