Second Harvest Food Bank has postponed a food distribution that was expected to help Champaign County families stock their pantries this weekend, citing concerns for the safety of volunteers, staff, and community members.
The Fill Your Summer Pantry distribution, originally scheduled for Saturday, July 18, has been rescheduled out of an abundance of caution.
The organization intends to hold the event on Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., but says those details are not yet final. A confirmation and any additional information will be announced soon.
The free community food distribution will take place at the Champaign County Community Building parking lot, 1512 U.S. 68, Urbana, and is designed to help Champaign County families stock their pantries with essential grocery items.
The event is open to all Champaign County residents seeking assistance. Guests are asked to bring a valid photo ID, and everyone in line by 1:00 p.m. will be served. Organizers also ask attendees not to line up before 9:00 a.m.
Second Harvest said the decision to postpone the event was made to protect everyone involved and thanked the community for its patience and understanding.
The food bank encourages residents to watch for an upcoming announcement confirming the July 25 distribution date and any additional event details.
