The Benjamin Logan Athletic Hall of Fame will honor two notable teams and one individual athlete during a special induction ceremony on Friday, January 17, at Benjamin Logan High School. The event takes place before the varsity basketball game against Northwestern High School.
The evening begins with the Junior Varsity game at 6:00 PM, followed by the Hall of Fame introductions immediately after the JV game and before the Varsity game at 7:30 PM. Inductees are asked to gather in the high school commons at 6:15 PM.
This year’s honorees include the 1972-73 Boys Basketball Team for a successful season under the guidance of the late Tommy Lawrence. The team achieved several milestones, including:
- Securing the school’s first-ever league championship.
- Posting a .737 winning percentage, the second highest in school history.
- Averaging 69.9 points per game, the second-best in school history.
- Setting a record for the fewest losses in a season (5), which still stands.
- All five starters averaged double figures in scoring, with three players named to the all-league second team.
- The team’s accomplishments came during a transitional year, following the merger with Belle Center and a move to Division AA.
Also being inducted this year are the 1972 Football Team, who, coached by Ron Royer, completed a triumphant undefeated season with a 9-0 record, outscoring opponents by an impressive margin of 350-52. Highlights include:
- Nine players were named First Team All-League for offense and defense.
- The program’s first 1,000-yard rusher: Albert with 1,052 yards.
- Total yardage records: 2,827 rushing yards (314 yards/game) and 3,430 total yards (381 yards/game).
- The team’s outstanding performance set a benchmark for athletic excellence and teamwork at Benjamin Logan.
Rounding out this year’s inductees is Nikki Current of the Class of 2018. Nikki made a lasting impact on Benjamin Logan’s athletics through her accomplishments in basketball. Her achievements include:
- Scoring 2,000 career points, a school record.
- Being named CBC Player of the Year three times: 2015–16, 2016–17, and 2017–18.
- Earning the title of 2018 Ohio Division 3 Co-Player of the Year.
- Helping her teams secure CBC Championships all four years of her high school career.
- Receiving 1st Team CBC honors and multiple All-District and All-Area awards all four years.
- Nikki’s contributions to the program exemplify dedication and excellence in athletics.
