The Calvary Christian varsity girls soccer team battled Delphos St. John’s to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night in a WOSL Conference matchup at home.

Both teams battled for possession and worked to create scoring opportunities throughout the first half, but neither side was able to find the back of the net.

Strong midfield play from Annagail Lambert, Mak Kariuki and Jenna Palmer helped anchor the Spartan attack and keep pressure on the Blue Jays.

Calvary Christian junior goalkeeper Lydia Davie also played a key role in keeping the match scoreless early. Davie stopped a penalty kick and finished the night with four saves.

Delphos St. John’s finally broke through in the 60th minute when junior Blaire Gable scored to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans answered just nine minutes later.

During a frenzied attack in the box, Lambert and Blythe Lowe worked together to create an opportunity for Emily Cronkleton. Cronkleton finished the play with the tying goal, bringing Calvary Christian level at 1-1.

Neither team could find another goal in the remaining minutes, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
