Several area volleyball teams were in action Saturday, with Bellefontaine battling Triad in a four-set varsity match while Riverside faced Newton and Bethel across its varsity, JV and middle school teams.
Triad 3, Bellefontaine 1
The Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains traveled to Triad Saturday and battled the Cardinals through four sets before falling 19-25, 25-18, 14-25 and 19-25.
Ava Layman led Bellefontaine with 14 kills while reaching a career milestone of 500 kills. She also went 8-for-8 serving with two aces, eight digs and one block.
Jazmin Nelson recorded a career-high five blocks to go along with two kills and two digs.
Alayna Boyd finished with two assists, seven digs and two blocks. She went 12-for-12 serving with an ace and was 10-for-11 on serve receive.
Lexey Brown added five kills, four blocks and two digs while going 10-for-10 serving.
Presley Vigansky directed the Bellefontaine offense with 25 assists. She added seven digs, two kills and two blocks while going 16-for-18 serving with three aces.
Arianna Rangel recorded five kills and five digs while going 4-for-4 serving.
Jillian Ullom had 11 digs and went 7-for-7 serving.
Celine Blinn was 8-for-11 serving with an ace and added one kill and one dig. She was also 5-for-6 on serve receive.
Ellie Bosiljevac added one kill.
Bellefontaine falls to 5-9 on the season and will play a crossover match Tuesday night at Benjamin Logan.
JV — Bellefontaine 2, Triad 1
The JV Lady Chiefs rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Triad, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-18.
Ellie Bosiljevac led Bellefontaine with nine kills, five digs and an ace. She was also 3-for-4 on serve receive.
Brookelyn Oaks recorded 17 digs and was 13-for-16 on serve receive. She also had three assists, one kill and went 3-for-3 serving.
Gianna Davis finished with 14 digs and four kills. She was 15-for-16 serving and added an assist.
Rosie Lightle contributed 11 assists, 13 digs and three kills while going 17-for-17 serving with two aces.
Alexis Hogan had four assists, three digs and two kills while going 11-for-11 serving with an ace.
Lexi McKirahan added three digs and one kill.
Rylyn Hoskins-Rose went 11-for-11 serving with four aces and added two kills, one solo block, five digs and an assist.
Diana Martinez had one kill and two digs, while Ellie Irick added one kill and Hailey Augustus recorded one dig.
The JV Lady Chiefs are 5-9 and will travel to Benjamin Logan Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Newton 3, Riverside 1
Riverside traveled to Newton Saturday, with the JV Pirates earning a straight-set victory before the varsity team fell in four sets.
The Riverside JV team won 25-12 and 25-11.
Ellie Zwiebel led the offense with 12 assists.
Kenzie Stotler recorded five kills, four digs and six aces, while Bella Robinson had seven digs.
Addison Show added four kills, while Karly Gillman contributed three aces.
Newton defeated the Riverside varsity team, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-16.
Kara Klingler finished with 23 assists, while Makayla Hurley had eight kills and Eva Dodds added five kills.
Emilee Robinson led Riverside with 31 digs, followed by Chloe Purtee with 15 digs.
Bethel 2, Riverside 0 — 7th Grade
Riverside hosted Bethel Saturday in a conference matchup, with Bethel earning a 25-9, 25-13 victory.
Bella Castallante scored two points, including one ace.
Brayla Olinger also scored two points, while Kylie Godshall and Destiny Lattimer each added one point.
Bethel 2, Riverside 0 — 8th Grade
The Riverside eighth-grade team battled Bethel in an intense match before falling 25-22 and 25-19.
Brylee led Riverside with eight points, four aces and a tip.
Bella Shultz added four points, three aces, one block and a tip.
Kinsley Crawford recorded three points, two aces and a tip, while Paloma Quixan had three points and two aces.
Ruth Morrison added two points.
Avery Wheeler and Bella Beaty each scored one point.
Riverside returns to the court Monday when the Pirates host Northridge.
