Hawley outduels Snipes as Raiders beat Lakers, Indians stay unbeaten, win-filled Monday baseball

Benjamin Logan 2, Indian Lake 0

In a pitcher’s duel, Benjamin Logan edged Indian Lake 2-0 behind a dominant complete-game effort from Jacob Hawley.

Hawley needed just 77 pitches to finish the shutout, allowing four hits while striking out six and hitting two batters. Jackson Snipes also turned in a strong outing for the Lakers, giving up two earned runs on three hits with two walks, one hit batter, and eight strikeouts.

The Raiders scored early and late to secure the win. In the first inning, Xavier Allen and Adam Tinsman each delivered one-out singles, with Allen eventually coming home from third to open the scoring. Benjamin Logan added an insurance run in the seventh when Allen and Tinsman drew walks to start the inning, and Parker Yelton followed with an RBI single to left that brought Allen home.

Indian Lake’s best chance came in the third inning with two-out singles from Nixon Lillard and Cooper Hall, but the threat ended on a sharp defensive play by Allen at second base. Hawley closed out the game in dominant fashion, striking out the side in the seventh.

Allen scored both runs for the Raiders, while Lillard led the Lakers with two hits.

Benjamin Logan improves to 12-6 and will face Indian Lake again on Wednesday. The Lakers fall to 8-9 and will host Graham on Tuesday.

Mechanicsburg 11, Madison Plains 0 (5 innings)

Mechanicsburg remained unbeaten with an 11-0 run-rule victory over Madison Plains, powered by a dominant performance from Conner Eyink.

Eyink tossed a five-inning complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 10 of the 15 outs he recorded.

The Indians opened the scoring in the second inning. Hank Huffman led off with a double, and Matthew Davis followed with a shallow single. After a sacrifice bunt from Bodee Delong moved both runners into scoring position, Drew Lawhorn drove them in with a line-drive single to make it 2-0.

Mechanicsburg added two more in the third, loading the bases before Liam O’Laughlin drew a walk to force in a run, and Davis later scored on a balk to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Indians broke the game open in the fourth. Eyink drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Eli Wilson drew a bases-loaded walk, and Delong cleared the bases with a single to left. O’Laughlin capped the inning with a two-run home run to push the lead to 11-0.

Madison Plains threatened briefly in the third, but Eyink stranded both runners and later struck out the side in the fifth to end the game.

Huffman, Davis, and Delong each had two hits, while Delong and O’Laughlin drove in three runs apiece. Huffman and Davis each scored three times.

Mechanicsburg improves to 16-0 and will travel to Southeastern on Tuesday.

Urbana 11, Tecumseh 1 (5 innings)

Urbana rolled to an 11-1 run-rule win over Tecumseh behind a dominant outing from Kevin Endres.

Endres allowed just one hit and one run while striking out 10, also issuing one walk and hitting one batter.

The Hillclimbers set the tone early with a seven-run first inning. Carter Houseman led off with an infield single, and after moving into scoring position, came home on a single by Endres. Tate Lantz followed with a triple to score Endres, and Bentley Cordial added an RBI single. Later in the inning, Colton Roberts cleared the bases with a double, and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded forced in another run.

Urbana added a run in the second on an RBI double from Austin Hill and tacked on three more in the fourth. Houseman delivered a bases-loaded double to score two, and Grady Lantz brought in another with a sacrifice fly.

Roberts led the offense with three RBIs, while Houseman and Grady Lantz each drove in two. Houseman, Endres, and Jackson Stacy each recorded two hits.

Urbana has now won nine straight to improve to 14-5 and will host Tecumseh on Wednesday.

Triad 4, Catholic Central 3

Triad walked it off in dramatic fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Catholic Central 4-3.

The Cardinals struck first in the opening inning. George Hartman and Duncan Funderburgh each drew walks and moved up on a passed ball, before Jayden Blackburn brought home Hartman with an RBI groundout.

Early on, Triad pitcher JJ Roberts was sharp, allowing just one baserunner through the first three innings while striking out three. The Irish broke through in the middle innings, tying the game in the fourth, taking the lead in the fifth, and adding a run for a 3-1 advantage.

Triad stayed patient at the plate but stranded two runners in the sixth, setting up the final inning.

After stranding the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, the Cardinals didn’t allow an out in the bottom half. Roberts led off with a single, Alfred Johnson walked, and Connor Hayes drove in a run with a single. Hartman then loaded the bases with a hit, and Funderburgh and Blackburn each drew walks to tie and win it, 4-3.

Roberts went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Blackburn led the offense with two RBIs, while Hayes, Hartman, and Roberts added hits.

Triad improves to 5-12 and will travel to Cedarville on Tuesday.

West Liberty-Salem 12, Cedarville 5

West Liberty-Salem used steady offense to defeat Cedarville 12-5.

Cedarville scored three runs in the first, but the Tigers answered right back. With two outs, Reese Oder and Jeremiah Johnson singled, Josiah Johnson walked, and Brandel Sullivan cleared the bases with a double to tie it 3-3.

Cedarville left the bases loaded in the second, and West Liberty-Salem took control. Tucker Searles delivered a two-out RBI single, and a throwing error allowed another run to score for a 5-3 lead.

The Tigers extended the lead in the third. Jeremiah Johnson hit an RBI double and later scored, while additional runs came off a Beckett Sullivan double and a Dallas Koons groundout to make it 8-3.

Cedarville got one back in the fourth, but West Liberty-Salem answered with a sacrifice fly from Reese Oder.

The Tigers added insurance in the sixth, scoring on a passed ball and a two-RBI single from Brandel Sullivan.

Cedarville added a late run, but the deficit was too much as West Liberty-Salem held on for the win.

Brandel Sullivan led the Tigers, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while Jeremiah Johnson also went 3-for-3.

West Liberty-Salem has won five straight to improve to 12-7 and will travel to Greeneview on Tuesday.

Bellefontaine 11, London 7

Bellefontaine used a balanced offensive attack to defeat London 11-7, scoring 11 runs on 10 hits while drawing 11 walks.

London struck first in the opening inning, but the Chieftains responded with a six-run second. After loading the bases, Bellefontaine capitalized with two-out production as Spencer Stolly, Aven Caudill, and Lincoln Banta each drew walks, Cayleb Overmann was hit by a pitch, and Sutton Daring delivered a two-run single to center to make it 6-2.

London battled back, scoring on an error in the fourth and adding a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Bellefontaine answered with another big inning in the fifth. Overmann drove in a run with a single, Stolly stole home, and Caudill added an RBI single. Daring capped the rally with another RBI hit to extend the lead to 10-5.

London added two more runs late, but Bellefontaine tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Daring doubled to score Banta. Caudill closed out the game on the mound.

Daring led the Chieftains with three hits and four RBIs. Overmann and Caudill each drove in two runs, while seven different players recorded hits.

Bellefontaine improves to 8-10 and will host London again Wednesday.

Graham 8, Shawnee 5

Graham rallied late with six runs over the final two innings to defeat Shawnee 8-5.

Shawnee jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, using a sacrifice fly, a balk, and a two-run double to build an early advantage. The Braves added another run in the third on an RBI double to make it 5-2.

Graham began to chip away in the third, scoring twice on a fielder’s choice and a groundout to cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Falcons took control in the sixth inning. Kingston McWilliams delivered an RBI single, and after additional baserunners reached, runs scored on a passed ball and a key single from Mateo Castelucci to give Graham a 6-5 lead.

Graham added two more in the seventh when Carson Powell reached on an error and scored on a double by JP Morris, who later came home on another error.

Morris also earned the win on the mound, allowing just one earned run and finishing strong by inducing a game-ending double play.

Castelucci led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while McWilliams also drove in two runs.

Graham improves to 4-15 and will travel to Indian Lake on Tuesday.
