The 2026 golf season continued Wednesday as area teams competed in the Champaign County Invitational at Woodland Golf Club, with Mechanicsburg claiming the boys team championship and the Lady Indians capturing the girls title.
In the boys 18-hole competition, Mechanicsburg finished first among five teams with a team score of 347, followed by West Liberty-Salem (371), Triad (397), Graham (421), and Urbana (437). Mechanicsburg’s junior varsity team also competed, finishing with a 411.
Triad senior Cohen Millice earned individual medalist honors after firing a tournament-best 73 to lead the Cardinals.
Mechanicsburg was led by Mason Bandy, who placed near the top of the leaderboard with an 80, followed by Ryder Buxton with an 84. Elliott Moore added a 91, while MJ Blose shot a 92 and Maxwell Popovich finished with a 93 to round out the scoring lineup. Owen Lawhorn also competed, recording a 95.
West Liberty-Salem finished runner-up as Calen Fairchild paced the Tigers with an 87, followed by Braxton Catron with an 88. Brayden Thompson carded a 97, Eli Jackson shot a 99, and Logan Behlmer added a 105. Carter Henderson finished with a 113. The Tigers’ JV squad was led by Owen Thornburg, who shot a 112.
Triad placed third behind Millice’s medalist performance. Carson Jackson finished with a 104, while Colton Mullin and Hayden Sheppeard each recorded a 110.
In the girls nine-hole competition, Mechanicsburg captured the team championship with a score of 216. West Liberty-Salem finished second with a 234, followed by Graham (237), Urbana (259), and West Liberty-Salem JV (280). Triad did not record a team score.
Mechanicsburg’s Blake Roush earned girls medalist honors with a round of 43.
West Liberty-Salem opened the season with a second-place finish, led by Ava Martin with a 56. Grace Jones followed with a 57, while Emma Cole shot a 59 and Kate Bolton finished with a 62. On the JV side, Natalie Fish paced the Lady Tigers with a 67.
The invitational provided area programs with their first chance to compete against multiple teams this season as golfers continue preparing for league play and the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
