Middle School Hoops: Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan & West Liberty-Salem Battle Opponents


The 7th-grade Lady Chiefs opened the season with a 25-1 victory over visiting Kenton.

Mia Brown netted 8 points while grabbing 6 rebounds.

Paxton Stewart knocked down 7 points from the field while Lexey Brown added 6 points and tenacious defense.

Cameo Greene and Rylee Crabtree combined for 4 points while Cameo Greene led all players with 4 assists.

The 7th-grade girls will travel to Indian Lake next Thursday night.


The 8th-grade Lady Chiefs fell in their home opener to the Kenton Wildcats 26-14.

Leading the Chiefs was Joy Fogan with four points, three steals, and 7 rebounds.

Sloan Stolly added four, Tabby Thomas, Ava Oppy, and Amari Hunsicker each added two.

The 8th girls travel to Ridgemont next Tuesday.


The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade girls basketball team defeated West Jefferson 21-11.

Leading the Tigers in was Emily King scoring 11 points, Ashlyn Yeater had 6, and Karlee Lucas added 4 points.

The Tigers are 1-1 and they take on Triad at home Monday.


West Liberty-Salem’s 8th-grade girls defeated West Jefferson 45-6 on Thursday.

Leading the team were Arianna Weaver scoring 12 points, Isla Leichty with 8 points, Delaney Anane-Sefah 7, Olivia McQuinn, Nevaeh Gravely, and Lucy Cole all scored 4 points, and Addi Wallen, Ellery Wygal, and Emma Schmelzer each added two points to the score.


The 7th-grade Benjamin Logan girls lost a hard-fought game to Urbana 21-15.

Leading the way for the Raiders was Addi Rutherford with 4 points.

The 8th-grade Raiders started slow but pulled away in the end defeating Urbana 31-18.

Leading Benjamin Logan was Hailey Smith netting 14 points and Bryleigh Burnside hit two 3’s and scored 6.
