Triad 5, Mechanicsburg 2 (Suspended, Bottom 4th)

Triad used a big third inning to take control before rain suspended play, leading Mechanicsburg 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Mechanicsburg struck first in the opening inning. Avery McDowell led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on an RBI groundout from Chuckie Dale to give the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead.

Triad answered in the second. Savannah Thomas doubled to left, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a bunt single from Haillei Jenkins to tie the game. Mechanicsburg responded in the bottom half, as Keelyn McGhee reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Lexi Poland groundout to make it 2-1 after two innings.

The Lady Cardinals took control in the third with a three-run inning. Emma Martin tripled with one out and scored on an Emma Enochs single to tie the game. Thomas was then hit by a pitch, and Gracie Goehring doubled to center to give Triad the lead. Goehring later scored on an error by the catcher to extend the lead to 4-2.

Triad added one more in the fourth. Rachel Haser came around to score on a wild pitch before the game was halted due to rain.

The game will resume at a later date, with a makeup date still to be determined.

Northwestern 4, Benjamin Logan 0 (Suspended, Bottom 5th)

Benjamin Logan struggled to generate offense as Northwestern built a 4-0 lead before the game was suspended due to inclement weather.

The game started as a pitching duel. Benjamin Logan’s Adilynne Gregg worked around a bases-loaded jam in the third and kept Northwestern off the board through three scoreless innings, striking out three.

Northwestern broke through in the fourth. A leadoff batter reached and advanced to second on an error, then came home on a single to center to give the Lady Warriors a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Warriors added to the lead in the fifth. Back-to-back singles to start the inning made it 2-0, and a third straight single brought home another run. A double later put runners on second and third, and an RBI groundout extended the lead to 4-0 before Gregg recorded a strikeout to end the inning.

Benjamin Logan managed just two hits in the game, one each from Gregg and Rylan Norviel, along with two walks.

The game was called heading into the bottom of the fifth and will be resumed at a later date.
