West Liberty-Salem Schools has announced the appointment of Sean King as the next head varsity boys basketball coach, beginning with the 2026-27 season.

King enters his eighth season on the Tiger coaching staff after serving as a varsity assistant coach. During his time on the bench, West Liberty-Salem captured two Ohio Heritage Conference championships and earned a district runner-up finish.

A former Tiger player, King has deep roots in the program, having been involved with West Liberty-Salem basketball as a youth player, student-athlete, and coach. He said his vision is to build upon the championship culture established by previous coaches while continuing to focus on the development of student-athletes.

“My goal is to create a transformational program rather than a transactional one,” King said. “We want our players to focus on excellence over success by emphasizing process-based goals, accountability, and the values that have made Tiger Basketball special.”

Those values — Passionate, Unified, Tough, and Thankful — will serve as the foundation of the program under King’s leadership. He also emphasized the importance of multi-sport participation, building strong relationships with other athletic programs, and helping players pursue individual growth while contributing to team success.

King said he also plans to place a strong emphasis on youth outreach by strengthening connections with youth coaches and families while creating opportunities for younger players to interact with current student-athletes through camps and community events.

Athletic Director Morgan Sullivan said King is well-positioned to continue the program’s tradition of success.

“We are excited to have Sean lead our program. His knowledge of Tiger Basketball, commitment to our student-athletes, and passion for developing young men make him the right person to continue the tradition of excellence that our community expects.”

West Liberty-Salem officials said they look forward to the continued growth and success of the boys basketball program under King’s leadership.
