Triad Local Schools has announced the hiring of two new head basketball coaches, bringing experienced leadership to both the Cardinal girls’ and boys’ varsity programs ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Veteran coach and former collegiate player Kim Staten has been named the new head coach of the Triad varsity girls basketball team. Staten is already a familiar face at Triad after taking over the varsity volleyball program in 2025, where she guided the Cardinals to a 13-win season and helped make the team more competitive in the Ohio Heritage Conference North Division.

Staten will continue serving as head volleyball coach while adding leadership of the girls basketball program. She previously coached girls basketball for six years at Teays Valley High School as both a freshman coach and varsity assistant.

Before beginning her coaching and teaching career, Staten was a four-year starter for the women’s basketball program at Cleveland State University. She still ranks second all-time in career field goal percentage and career blocked shots in program history.

Triad Athletic Director Jason Malone said Staten is expected to bring the same competitive mindset to the basketball program that she established in volleyball.

Staten and her husband, Justin, live in Mount Sterling with their three children: Reese, Chloe, and Connor.

Triad also announced the recommendation of Ryan Henderson as the next head coach of the varsity boys basketball team, pending board approval during the district’s regular meeting Monday evening.

Henderson comes to Triad from Fairlawn High School, where he served as a varsity assistant coach and junior high boys basketball coach from 2024 through 2026.

According to Malone, Henderson emphasized “effort, attitude, toughness and academics” as key pillars for building a successful basketball program during the interview process. School officials said his focus extends beyond wins and losses, with an emphasis on helping student-athletes become successful young men both during and after high school.

Malone also praised Henderson’s organization and attention to detail, calling them valuable assets for the future of the program.

Henderson and his wife, Stephanie, live in Troy with their four children: Aiden, Kadance, Emery, and Molly.
