The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade Tigers battled their way to a straight-set victory over Greeneview Wednesday night, earning a 25-12, 25-19 win.
The Tigers set the tone early with strong serving, using seven aces to help build momentum throughout the match. WLS also found success offensively, recording 16 kills as the Tigers consistently put pressure on the Greeneview defense.
Defensively, the Tigers showed strong teamwork and helped keep rallies alive, finishing the night with 32 digs. The all-around effort allowed WLS to maintain control in both sets and close out the match in two.
The victory moves the 8th grade Tigers to 6-3 in Ohio Heritage Conference play and 6-5 overall on the season.
The 7th grade Tigers also took on Greeneview Wednesday but were unable to come away with a win, falling 25-10 and 25-9.
Despite the loss, WLS continues to compete in a strong OHC schedule. The 7th grade Tigers now stand at 5-5 in conference play and 6-6 overall.
Both WLS teams will return to action Monday when they travel to Madison Plains. The first match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
