Three Zanesfield Petanque Club members traveled to Milton, Georgia for the Federation of Petanque USA National Mens, Womens and Mixed Doubles tournaments hosted by Atlanta Petanque League on April 6th and 7th.
In Saturday’s FPUSA National Men’s double Ziggy Kessouagni partnered with Michel Gwinner (Atlanta Petanque League). There were 26 men’s teams and after 3 qualifying rounds, Team Ziggy went 2-1 and ranked 6th. This put them in the Concours bracket in which they won their first game but dropped their second to be eliminated.
In the FPUSA National Women’s Double Debbie Cameron partnered with Catherine Diebold (Thibodaux Petanque Club) and Kristy Koranda partnered with Joyce Keeton (Chattooga Boules). There were 22 women’s teams and after 3 qualifying rounds Team Cameron ranked #20 after going 0-3 and Team Koranda #8 after going 2-1. Team Cameron dropped to the Consolante Bracket and lost their first game to be eliminated. Team Koranda was in the Concours bracket and won their first game but dropped their second to be eliminated.
In Sunday’s Mixed Doubles, there were 48 teams. Kessouagni & Cameron teamed up and went 2-1 in qualifying to rank #24. This put them in the Consolante A bracket which they won their next 3 games to reach the final but had to forfeit because of time to make their flight. Koranda teamed with Roland Rakotondramanana (Sactown Petanque) and went 3-0 in qualifying giving them a #6 ranking. This put them in the Concour, where they won their first game but dropped their next to be eliminated.
