Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a sweeping $60 billion, two-year state operating budget into law Monday night, setting the stage for major policy changes affecting taxes, education, Medicaid, and more.
He held a press conference explaining his choice to the State of Ohio on Tuesday morning.
At the beginning of a press conference, the Governor stated,
“…builds on the historic investment we’ve made throughout our administration to help all Ohioans live up to their God-given potential. We’ve done things in this budget and in our previous three budgets that have never been done before in Ohio…this budget continues our historic investment in children in mental health in public safety in our state parks in our water in our workforce and in our future, stronger, healthier families contribute to a stronger healthier Ohio.”

State Senator Susan Manchester voiced strong support for the plan.
“I’m confident this budget reflects the priorities and concerns of Ohio citizens who engaged with us throughout the process. It is a balanced and fiscally responsible budget that includes tax cuts and relief for constituents, having a lasting impact — not only in Senate District 12, but across Ohio.”
State Representative Ty Mathews also praised key components of the package.
“Pending some overrides, the operating budget seeks to deliver real relief to working families,” Mathews said in a statement. “This budget makes meaningful strides on property tax reform, ensuring homeowners aren’t being taxed out of their communities. It also invests in the health of our waterways by dedicating additional funding for dredging efforts that protect our natural resources and support local economies. It also strengthens pro-family programs that uplift parents, children, and communities across our state.”
Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel wrapped up the press conference praising DeWine,
“Here’s how he does it. I’ve been behind the curtain for 140 days. He’s got a great team, and he cares about everyone in this state reaching their potential. That’s not just a cliche, and he cares about every little thing. It’s been fun to watch how he takes care of things.”
Governor DeWine also signed Executive Order 2025-03D, creating a working group on the submission of a waiver to exclude certain beverages from SNAP in Ohio, on Monday night.
