A man was taken into custody late Saturday night after a reported suspicious activity call at the Cobblestone Hotel that led to the discovery of drugs and multiple charges, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Officers responded to the hotel just after 10:30 p.m. after a hotel employee reported two individuals in the parking lot who were acting erratically.
When officers arrived, they first spoke with 36-year-old Michael Robinson, of Bellefontaine, and a female companion.
The pair told officers they had tried to check into the hotel but were unable to verify a reservation.
While talking with the couple, officers learned Robinson had an active warrant for his arrest.
As officers tried to detain him, Robinson walked away despite repeated commands to stop.
Police said he continued moving behind the hotel while holding a dog, ignoring officers.
According to the report, the female told officers Robinson may have been attempting to provoke a “suicide by cop” situation.
Officers eventually confronted Robinson at taser point, and then it was deployed.
Robinson briefly fled before falling and being taken into custody.
During the arrest, Robinson resisted, made threats toward officers, and had to be physically restrained.
A search of his person turned up drug paraphernalia, including a crack pipe.
Due to complaints of injury, Robinson was transported by the Bellefontaine Fire Department to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation.
After being released early Sunday morning, he was taken into custody again and transported to the Logan County Jail.
A search of two backpacks associated with Robinson uncovered suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, including pipes and a scale.
One substance tested positive for crack cocaine, with additional materials sent for further analysis.
Police also determined Robinson was in violation of an active protection order involving the female, though she declined to pursue charges related to that violation.
Robinson is currently being held on a charge of possession of drugs, with additional charges including resisting arrest, obstructing official business, aggravated menacing, violation of a protection order, and possession of drug paraphernalia expected, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.
