The 185th Champaign County Fair opens Friday with a full schedule of livestock shows, horse events, educational activities, live music, and exciting grandstand entertainment.
The day begins at 7 a.m. as the fairgrounds open and Junior Fair Market Beef and Beef Breeding check-in gets underway. Dairy Steers and Dairy Feeders will follow, while Junior Fair Market Swine, Junior Fair Market Lambs, and Open Class Market Lambs begin weighing at 8 a.m.
Goat exhibitors will be busy throughout the morning with the Junior Fair Pygmy Goat Show followed by the Junior Fair Dairy Goat Show. At 10 a.m., exhibitors return to the ring for Junior Fair Goat Showmanship, where they will be judged on their ability to handle and present their animals.
The Ag Innovation Series will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. and again from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Activities Building, giving fairgoers a chance to learn more about today’s agriculture.
Horse events begin with the Junior Fair Horse Opening Ceremonies at noon, followed by the Junior Fair Horse Show Contest Classes at 2:30 p.m.
The evening includes Junior Fair Dairy Steer and Dairy Feeder Showmanship at 5 p.m., along with the 4-H Style Review at 5:30 p.m. in the Junior Fair Modeling Pavilion. Live music from Dark Horse Band will also be featured from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lions Park Gazebo.
The day’s featured event is the Champaign County Classic Truck & Tractor Pull, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Grandstand. The annual event is one of the fair’s biggest attractions and promises an exciting night to kick off the 185th Champaign County Fair.
