The Bellefontaine Police Department is wrapping up another successful year of Safety Town, helping local children get ready for a safe start to the school year.

Now in its 64th year, the Bellefontaine Exchange Club’s Safety Town program gave nearly 200 young students the opportunity to learn important safety skills throughout the month.

Officers Isaac Chiles, Doug Walters, and John Godwin participated in the program, teaching lessons on pedestrian safety, stranger danger, gun safety, playground safety, fire safety, and bus safety.

Officer Chiles talks about Safety Town and what is coming up next for the officers this summer:

The Bellefontaine Police Department thanked the Bellefontaine Exchange Club, the many volunteers, and participating families for helping make this year’s program a success.

Officials say programs like Safety Town continue to play an important role in teaching children how to stay safe while helping build a stronger and safer community for the future.
