Benjamin Logan Middle School proudly announces that Mrs. Gretchen Powell, a Gifted & STEM Teacher, has been selected to participate in the 2024-2025 Teacher Academy sponsored by the Submarine Industrial Base. Sally Stolly, Director of Administrative Services at Benjamin Logan Schools, encouraged Mrs. Powell to apply for the Ohio STEM Learning Network Teacher Academy during the priority application period, citing Mrs. Powell’s dedication to bringing the best in STEM learning to her classroom.
The Ohio STEM Learning Network Teacher Academy, organized by the Ohio STEM Learning Network, aims to empower educators like Mrs. Powell to elevate STEM education in their classrooms. Thanks to the generous support of the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Industrial Base, the $1,600 program fee is waived for participants. This prestigious program offers a year-long cohort experience where educators hone their confidence and ability to build a strong STEM culture and identity, embed design thinking, leverage authentic problem-based learning units, and strengthen community partnerships.
The Teacher Academy equips educators with the tools and knowledge to foster a vibrant STEM culture in their classrooms. Mrs. Powell and her fellow cohort members will explore and implement best practices in STEM education, including promoting collaboration and inquiry, integrating design thinking and problem-based learning, and more. Additionally, the program includes an industry externship, providing teachers with valuable real-world insights through immersive experiences with local businesses and manufacturers.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Mrs. Gretchen Powell on her selection for the 2024-2025 Teacher Academy,” said Stolly. “Her dedication to advancing STEM education is commendable, and we are confident that Mrs. Powell will continue to inspire her students and colleagues alike.”
