Benjamin Logan High School Finalist in Jostens Contest; BOE Highlights

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday evening.

During the meeting, the Board recognized April King of V-Teck Communications and Sharyn Kopf of the Bellefontaine Examiner for their contributions to balanced and insightful education reporting. Both were honored with the Ohio School Boards Association Media Honor Roll.

Tim Street, CEO of Logan County Electric Cooperative, also presented the district with a Capital Credits Check of nearly $11,700, further supporting the district’s operations.

Colleen Bodin, Director of Special Education Services, shared an update on the district’s special education programs. Currently, 189 students are being served with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Bodin highlighted ongoing professional development opportunities for special education staff and the district’s strong partnerships with the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center.

The Superintendent’s Report brought exciting news that Benjamin Logan High School is a Top 3 finalist in the Jostens Epic School Revamp Contest. The school will host a pep rally on Thursday to showcase Raider pride. The rally will be streamed HERE. The contest offers a Grand Prize valued at up to $150,000, which includes SchoolMark® installations, branding updates, and an invitation to the Jostens Renaissance Global Conference.

The Treasurer’s Financial Report included approving the November 2024 financial report, including a $500 grant from the Logan County Agriculture Impact Fund for agricultural initiatives led by Shelly Lane and Spencer Reames.

The Board also reviewed several staff changes. Susan Headings, Guidance Counselor, Andy Higgins, School Psychologist, and Tammy James, Educational Assistant, all announced their retirements in 2025. The Board approved new hires, including Jamie Gill as a teacher and Cole Carpenter as a bus driver.

An overnight trip for the Quiz Bowl Team to the Small School National Championship Tournament in Rosemont, IL, from April 25-27, 2025 was approved.

Donations included $465 in memory of Delores Pettit to support needy families and cheer signs valued at $630, donated by Bob Shaw and WPKO.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM.

The Board also entered an executive session to discuss personnel matters before adjourning the meeting.
