Near the end of the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday night, Vice President Tammy Fowler made a motion to rename Harmon Field to The Kristopher Myers Recreation Complex at Harmon Field, after former Parks Superintendent Kris Myers. Myers, who passed away suddenly in December of 2025, served the Parks Department for over 20 years and was instrumental in securing many of the grants that funded the work underway at Harmon Park today.
Parks Superintendent Rick Reed spoke about the proposal after the meeting:
The Board unanimously passed the resolution.
The proposal now goes to the city council for consideration. Council member Jordan Reser, the Parks and Recreation council liaison, said he would make sure the resolution appears on the Bellefontaine Council agenda for next Tuesday night.
In his report, Superintendent Reed said that the summer baseball and softball seasons are approximately half done. The leagues were forced to cancel several games two weeks ago due to rain, but they are being made up. Reed also said that the city will host the 2nd Annual Midway Baseball Factory tournament this coming weekend. While some games will be played at county fields, Southview Park is expected to be busy.
Reed also told the board that he is continuing to work on a way to allow city residents to walk in the park without paying the tournament entry fee. He said he has been in discussion with the tour organizers to make that happen.
Board President Pat Ellis informed the board that he expects to hear about several grants he has applied for to help fund the Hoffman Pool project. Ellis said he also recently spoke with Representative Tim Barhorst’s office about the possibility of securing state funds.
Superintendent Reed also said that he visited several swim lessons held at the pool and was very impressed with how the lifeguards worked with the children in attendance.
President Ellis told the board that he has been working on addressing the issues with the pickleball court surface. He contacted Heiberger Paving and was told they would like the manufacturer to come to the park and inspect the courts. Ellis remained confident that the repairs would be made soon.
The next meeting of the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Trustees will be on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Council chambers.
