The Benjamin Logan FFA sophomores and FFA Secretary recently spent time with special education students in the school. The sophomores took fun cow plates over, they helped the students color paper plate cows as well. They presented a slideshow about cows and where cheese, milk, and other dairy products come from. They gave them some different kinds of cheese to try and a Cowtail for everyone. Also in their bags were coloring books and other fun little farm activities to do. The purpose of this is to build a relationship with these students, get the chapter more involved, and recruit more members. Member Lucy Wenger states, “I loved the interaction between the students and us”.

The second time the members went over was around Thanksgiving time. Together they crafted turkey hats that the Special Education students got to decorate and then they colored farm pictures with them. The students enjoyed interacting with the members and to have visitors in their classroom meant a lot to them. The members pre-made plastic gloves and filled the fingers with different colored M&Ms to make a turkey. Member Lauren Kennedy states, “It was really fun because we got to spend time with elementary students and get to know each of them better.”

The Benjamin Logan FFA sophomores and Secretary went to visit them at the beginning of December and made little tractors out of popsicle sticks. The snack was bananas on a popsicle stick with a strawberry on top to look like Santa Claus. The tractor out of popsicle sticks was made into an ornament for them to take home for their Christmas tree. Member Kaylee Hays states, “It helps me to be able to learn how to interact with the students and it might open up a new career path for the future.”
