Celebrating 37 Years of V-Teck Communications

Today marks the 37th anniversary of V-Teck Communications.

It all began on a cold, snowy day in 1987 when Lou Vito started his first day as President and went live on air with WPKO & WBLL.

“Better communications for a better community” is the motto at V-Teck Communications. Since day one, Vito and his staff has focused on that motto with daily local news, local weather, contests, birthdays and anniversaries, sports, the Shopping Show and more.

The way those events are delivered today is quite different.  In 1987, only 98.3 WPKO and AM 1390 were available to get the word out. Today, V-Teck Communications has four radio signals, two websites, three social media pages, three live web streams, and now a TV outlet. Plus the listener has more ways to find the information. Your radio, your phone, your Alexa device, they are all radios now.

Speaking with station owner Lou Vito, he says that radio is now just one of the spokes in the wheel of distribution. He could never have dreamed of having so many options in 1987.

Here is the company’s expansion timeline:

  • 1993 launched local savings program with the Shopping Show
  • 1996 created mobile DJ service Sound Entertainment
  • 1998 launched first local news website PeakofOhio.com
  • 2016 98.3 WPKO began broadcasting in HD
  • 2016 started steaming the radio stations over the internet
  • January 2017 launched first new commercial radio station in Logan County in 40 years Classic Rock 107.3 The Drive
  • January 2018 launched Champaign County’s own radio station 106.9 The Bull (Country)
  • 2021 entered into eCommerce by launching ShoppingShow.com
  • In 2020, V-Teck introduced PeakofOhioTV.com, and then added Roku streaming in the fall of 2024, allowing fans to watch local high school sports, graduations, parades, and more from the comfort of their homes or mobile devices.

We are incredibly grateful for your support over the years and look forward to continuing to bring you top-quality radio stations and services for many more years to come.
