The Champaign County Fairgrounds are closed to the general public Tuesday due to storm damage and the possibility of additional severe weather moving through the area.
Fair officials said family members of those showing livestock will still be permitted to enter the fairgrounds to attend the livestock shows.
Wayne Cook, president of the Champaign County Fair Board, said the barns on the fairgrounds are currently operating on generator power.
The Harness Horse Racing scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled due to weather and power-related issues.
Racing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 12, with races at noon and 6 p.m. Officials said all of Wednesday’s races will be Stakes Races only.
Due to ongoing storm cleanup activities, the Wiener Dog Races scheduled for Tuesday have also been postponed.
The races have been rescheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Fair officials expect the fairgrounds to reopen Wednesday and resume normal operations fully, weather and conditions permitting.
Crews are working to assess the damage and make sure the grounds are safe.
Officials are asking visitors to remain patient and use caution while that work is underway.
Residents and visitors are also encouraged to continue monitoring weather conditions throughout the day as additional storms are possible.
