For the fourth straight year, a Bellefontaine City Schools’ student won the 2025 Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre Tuesday night.

Bellefontaine Middle School eighth-grader Blakely Vollrath was crowned champion.

Benjamin Logan Middle School seventh-grader Macie Marmon earned runner-up.

Vollrath spelled “inaccessible” to advance to the championship word. She then spelled “callipers” to win the bee.

Blakely is the daughter of Ben and Jacey Vollrath and talks about her win:

The annual competition went 38 rounds, including an 18-round spell-off.

The spelling bee featured twelve students from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake, and Riverside.

The four Bellefontaine City Schools’ students were eighth-graders Blakely Vollrath and Holland Hower along with fifth-graders Masyn Wilson and Kyler Vollrath (Blakely’s brother).

The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center hosted the spelling bee.

Erica Baer-Woods was the emcee.

Midwest Regional Educational Service Center Superintendent Scott Howell, Riverside Schools Gifted Specialist Andrea Watts, and Mandy Loehr served as judges.
