Governor Mike DeWine is encouraging Ohioans to take advantage of the state’s annual sales tax holiday, set for Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The tax-free period will begin at 12:00 a.m. on August 7 and run through 11:59 p.m. on August 9, giving families a full weekend to save on back-to-school essentials.
“Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday comes at a time of year when families are getting ready for back-to-school,” DeWine said. “The sales tax break is designed to provide meaningful savings for families as they purchase new school essentials for the upcoming year.”
During the three-day holiday, several items will be exempt from sales tax, including:
- Clothing priced at $75 or less per item
- School supplies priced at $20 or less per item
- School instructional materials priced at $20 or less per item
Tax Commissioner Patricia Harris also highlighted the benefits of the annual event.
“This annual holiday provides meaningful savings for Ohio families while supporting back-to-school preparation,” said Harris. “We encourage shoppers and retailers to plan ahead and take advantage of the exemption.”
