The City of Urbana has announced that the Northern Extension of the Simon Kenton Trail will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to allow crews to complete scheduled trail maintenance.
The closure will affect the section of trail extending from the ramp behind the Urbana Station Depot to State Route 296. During the one-day project, maintenance crews will perform routine work to improve the condition of the trail and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all trail users.
The maintenance is expected to be completed within one workday, and the trail section is anticipated to reopen once crews have finished and the area has been inspected for public use.
Trail users are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes while the work is underway. Signs will be posted at access points to notify visitors of the temporary closure.
The City of Urbana appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as this important maintenance is completed. Regular maintenance helps preserve the Simon Kenton Trail for walkers, runners, cyclists, and other recreational users throughout the community.
