Alicia Walters, 33, of Maplewood, was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence and drug-related charges after a traffic stop on State Route 117.

Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies saw a black Acura driving too fast near County Road 38.

The vehicle was traveling at 68 mph in the 55 mph zone.

Deputies also noticed a Ford Fusion with temporary tags following the Acura. Both vehicles seemed to signal to turn at the same time but then stopped in the middle of the road.

Law enforcement first spoke to the driver of the Ford Fusion, Jorge Campuzano, who had limited English.

He did not have a driver’s license but gave deputies an ID.

Deputies then approached the driver of the black Acura, identified as Walters.

She told them that she and Campuzano were on their way to Waffle House in Bellefontaine but had missed their turn.

Walters showed several signs of intoxication and the car smelled strongly of marijuana.

Walters admitted to drinking “a beer” but denied there were any drugs in the car.

Walters failed field sobriety tests and was arrested Walters for OVI (Operating a Vehicle under the Influence).

A search of Walters’ pockets found two Neurontin pills, which she handed over to the deputy.

She was issued a speeding ticket, and her car was towed.

She was taken to the jail, where she agreed to take a urine test.

The sample was sent for testing, and Walters was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription.

The Neurontin pills were placed into evidence.

The results of Walters’ urine test will determine whether she had drugs or alcohol in her system.
