An Urbana man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly threatening and assaulting family members during a domestic dispute at an apartment on East Court Street.

According to a report from the Urbana Police Division, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 700 block of East Court Street at approximately 2:06 a.m. on June 9 in response to a reported domestic disturbance involving Timothy Lightcap.

Police were advised while en route that Lightcap had allegedly threatened a family member, telling the individual, “I’ll have you dead.”

Upon arrival, officers spoke with multiple people at the residence. One individual told officers that an argument began between Lightcap and a parent before escalating into a confrontation involving them. The individual reported that Lightcap was striking the oven during the dispute and may have broken a plate. They further alleged that Lightcap threatened them and later struck another person in the face with an open hand after that person attempted to intervene.

A second individual reported stepping between Lightcap and another family member during the argument when Lightcap allegedly struck them in the face. The individual also told officers that Lightcap threatened to have them killed if police were called.

Officers then made contact with Lightcap inside the apartment. According to the report, Lightcap admitted to consuming alcohol and acknowledged making comments that officers interpreted as threats. He admitted to arguing with one of the individuals but denied striking anyone.

During the investigation, officers observed a small laceration on Lightcap’s thumb and noted blood on a glass salt and pepper shaker located on the stove.

Lightcap was taken into custody and transported to the Tri-County Jail.

He was charged with domestic violence and making threats of violence.

The case remains under investigation.
