A Flood Watch is in effect for Logan and Champaign counties and much of the surrounding area through Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service says a complex of thunderstorms is expected to develop this afternoon and continue into the overnight hours.
Repeated rounds of storms could bring heavy rainfall and increase the risk of flash flooding.
The threat is elevated because soils across the area are already saturated. Excessive runoff could cause flooding along rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Showers and thunderstorms could also produce brief cold air funnels this afternoon and evening.
Several funnel clouds have already been spotted across west-central Ohio, and the activity could move into central Ohio over the coming hours.
Most of the funnels are not expected to reach the ground. However, if one does, it could produce gusty winds and minor damage.
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
And if you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around — don’t drive through it. Water can be deeper and moving faster than it appears, and just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road.
The Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning.
