Tuesday is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is encouraging Ohioans to consider serving as poll workers for the November 3 General Election.
LaRose says Ohio elections rely on thousands of trained poll workers who help make sure Election Day runs smoothly.
“Every election depends on dedicated Ohioans who are willing to serve their communities,” LaRose said. “This November, voters across the state will be casting ballots in important races that will shape Ohio’s future. Poll workers are the men and women who ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot conveniently and with confidence.”
Poll workers assist voters, verify voter eligibility, help operate voting equipment, and make sure election procedures are followed at polling locations across the state.
Ohio’s elections are administered by local county boards of elections, which rely on tens of thousands of trained poll workers throughout the state.
Poll workers receive training before Election Day and are compensated for both their training and their service.
Earlier this year, LaRose announced a $1 million grant to support county boards of elections with poll worker recruitment and training efforts ahead of the November 3 General Election.
The Secretary of State’s office is also partnering with businesses, schools, veterans’ organizations, nonprofits and community groups through its Defend Democracy Toolkit to encourage more Ohioans to become poll workers.
LaRose says serving as a poll worker is a meaningful way to give back to the community while helping maintain confidence in Ohio’s elections.
