Recent Indian Lake High School graduate Owen Kaser has been honored with the R.A. Horn Outstanding Student Achievement Award, a prestigious statewide recognition presented to students who have overcome challenges, prioritized their education, and made a positive impact in their schools and communities.
Only 16 students from across Ohio were selected to receive the award this year during a special luncheon in Columbus.
Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood nominated Kaser for the honor, and he was surprised with the announcement during the Indian Lake High School Academic Awards ceremony in May.
Despite living with cerebral palsy, Kaser has become one of the most recognizable and admired students in the Indian Lake school community. Throughout his high school career, he participated in choir, show choir, and numerous student activities while maintaining strong academic performance. He is also a familiar face at nearly every Lakers athletic event, where he is known for enthusiastically supporting student-athletes with a smile and encouraging words.
Kaser’s mother, Morgan, said the recognition was especially meaningful for their family.
“Jeremy (Owen’s father) and I are especially grateful for Dr. Underwood and the meaningful relationship he and Owen have built over the years. His nomination letter filled our hearts with pride and left us speechless. To see Owen recognized not only for his achievements, but for the person he is means more than words can express.
“Knowing we are surrounded by leaders, educators, and a community that love, support, and believe in our guy as much as we do is truly a gift. Today was a reminder that barriers can be broken, dreams can be achieved, and that one person can make a lasting difference.”
The R.A. Horn Outstanding Student Achievement Award recognizes students whose determination, character, and contributions have helped make a lasting impact on their schools and communities. School officials said Kaser exemplifies those qualities through his perseverance, positive attitude, and dedication to others.
Indian Lake Schools congratulated Kaser and his family on the honor and the example he has set for fellow students.
