Judge Mark S. O’Connor, 80, of Belle Center, passed away Monday morning.

O’Connor, who served as the Logan County Court of Common Pleas Judge from 1990 until his retirement on December 31, 2016, was widely regarded as a dedicated public servant and respected member of the community.

He had a distinguished career that began after he graduated from John Carroll University in 1966 and earned his J.D. from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1969.

O’Connor previously served as the Bellefontaine City Prosecutor, Assistant Logan County Prosecutor, and was a partner at two Bellefontaine law firms.

Beyond his legal career, he was deeply involved in the community.

He served as a Sunday school teacher, the past President of the Mary Rutan Hospital Board of Trustees, and a member of the Logan County Children’s Services Board of Trustees.

Additionally, he was active in the Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus.

O’Connor was a proud member of the Logan County, Ohio State, and American Bar Associations, where he built relationships with fellow legal professionals throughout his career.

“Judge Mark O’Connor was a role model for multiple generations of Logan County lawyers. He was successful in private practice and for decades on the bench. He was a very smart man and highly dedicated to his community,” said Chad Ross, a fellow member of the Logan County Bar Association.

Former Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler remembers O’Connor:

Judge O’Connor is survived by his wife, Martha, and their three children.
