On Saturday, authorities responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Dollar General in Lakeview. Witnesses had reported individuals smoking from a pipe in a white Dodge sedan.
Logan County Sheriff Deputies found the vehicle and made contact with passenger Kara Ewing, 35, of Kenton, and an unidentified male driver.
Ewing appeared visibly nervous and provided an extensive explanation regarding her family’s experience with glaucoma, stating they were at the store for related products.
Officers requested consent to search the vehicle, which Ewing granted.
During the search, she asked to access a black bag in the passenger footwell to retrieve feminine products.
After allowing her to do so, officers found a smaller black bag containing two glass pipes with burnt residue, suspected to be used for methamphetamine.
Additionally, a digital scale with a white crystal substance was discovered inside the same bag.
Ewing was detained and informed of her rights.
Initially, she claimed the black bag belonged to a friend but later admitted ownership of the smaller bag containing the drug paraphernalia.
Despite the evidence, she denied any knowledge of the pipes and scale.
Ewing was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
